LANDING IN TRIESTE PART TWO

Already in 2005 we announced an exhibition of paintings in Trieste and we noted the artists’ desire to return to this city thanks to the welcome that they had received. After eight editions of the La Fenice et des Artistes competition, that took place at the natural headquarters of Venice, Fenice Hotels s.r.l. decided to move the competition to the renovated headquarters of the NovoHotel Impero in Trieste. The choice was made due to the desire to render the competition even more dynamic. Moving the exhibition headquarters to a city by the sea that by tradition is at the centre of “Mittel Europe”, a bridge towards the East (a theme that has already been treated by the artists during the fifth edition), for me and for the curator the theme for this year could only be “THE SEA”, that sea that unites Venice and Trieste and that has always been one of the gateways to the rest of the world for the Austro-Hungarian Empire that left so many memories in the city that hosts us, not least the very name of the Hotel. I am certain that Trieste will be as welcoming as Venice for the artists, I have no doubt that the spirit of the competition will flourish here with renewed vivacity thanks to the hospitality that has always marked the city.
